. Phrasal verbs
A phrasal verb is a verb combined with a particle such as back, in, on, off, through, up, etc. When a particle is added to the verb, the phrasal verb usually has a special meaning.
Example:
get up (get out of bed)
find out (get information)
bring out (publish/launch)
look through (read)
Note: A verb can go with two particles.
Example:
keep up with (stay equal with)
look forward to (be thinking with pleasure about something to come)
run out of (have no more of)

Preposition:
on, in, at, after, off, with, about...
Adverb: over, up, down, into, away...
Go:
Go away, go on, go over, go off, go down with, go in for ...

EXERCISE 6: Complete the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first sentence, using the word given.

3. I’ll read this leaflet to see what activities are organised at this attraction. (look)

Complex sentences
There are different types of dependent clause.
Dependent clause of concession: (DC): mệnh đề chỉ sự nhượng bô : Bắt đầu bằng:
although, though, even though ( mặc dù)
EX: Lan was tired, she still went to work.
-> Although Lan was tired, she still went to work.
2. Dependent clause of purpose: (DP): mệnh đề chỉ mục đích : Bắt đầu bằng:
so that/ in order that( để mà)
EX: Every morning I get up early so that/ in order that I can go to school on time.
3. Dependent clause of reason: (DR): mệnh đề chỉ nguyên nhân: Bắt đầu bằng: because/ since/ as ( bởi vì)
EX: It rained heavily. We didn’t go on a picnic.
-> Because/ Since/ As it rained heavily, we didn’t go on a picnic.
4. Dependent clause of time: (DT): mệnh đề chỉ thời gian: Bắt đầu bằng: when, while, before, after, as soon as ( ngay khi)
EX: When I have time, I will visit you.

EXERCISE 2. Make a complete sentence from each pair of sentences. Use subordinator provided and make any necessary changes.
1. The villagers are trỵing to learn English in order that they can communicate with foreign customers.

3. Even though this hand-embroidered picture was expensive, we bought it.
4. This department store is an attraction in my City because the Products are of good quality.
5. This is called a Chuong conical hat since it was made in Chuong village.
