Read the passage and then do the tasks that follow
Many years ago, my village was very poor. The villagers had to work hard in the fields all day and could hardly make ends meet. Their lives were simple and they were in need of many things. Many people had to live in houses made of straw and mud, and few families had a radio or a TV set. However, in spite of the shortages, the villagers managed to send their children to school and college. They hoped that with an education of science and technology, their children could find a way of bettering their lives.
The children have met their parents` wishes. When they came back from college or technical high school, they introduced new fanning methods, which resulted in bumper crops. They also helped the villagers grow cash crops for export. Soon, the lifestyle of my village changed. Today, people live in brick houses. In the evening, they can listen to the news on the radio or watch TV for entertainment. Sometimes they go to town on their motorbikes to do some shopping or to visit their friends.
“Our lives have changed a lot thanks to the knowledge our children brought home," said an old farmer, “and I always tell my grandchildren to study harder so that they can do even more for the village than their parents did."

Nhiều năm trước đây, làng tôi rất nghèo. Dân làng phải làm lụng vất vả cả ngày trên cánh đồng mà hầu như không đủ sống. Cuộc sống của họ đạm bạc và họ cần nhiều thứ. Nhiều người phải sống trong nhà tranh vách đất, và hầu như chẳng có gia đình nào có đài hay tivi. Mặc dù cuộc sống còn nhiều thiếu thốn, dân làng vẫn cố gắng cho con đến trường và đi học đại học. Họ hi vọng rằng với học vấn về khoa học và công nghệ, con cái của họ có thể tìm cách làm cho cuộc sống tốt đẹp hơn.
Con cái thực hiện được mong ước của bố mẹ. Khi chúng tốt nghiệp đại học hay trung cấp kỹ thuật trở về làng, chúng đã giới thiệu phương pháp canh tác mới đem lại những vụ mùa bội thu. Chúng cũng giúp dân làng trồng cây thương phẩm để xuất khẩu. Chẳng bao lâu sau cuộc sống ở làng tôi đã thay đổi. Ngày nay người dân đã có nhà gạch. Tối đến họ có thể nghe tin tức trên đài hay xem tivi để giải trí. Thỉnh thoảng họ đi xe máy ra phố mua sắm hay thăm bạn bè.
"Cuộc sống của chúng tôi đã thay đổi nhiều nhờ kiến thức mà bọn trẻ mang về", một lão nông nói, "và tôi luôn bảo con cháu mình phải học hành chăm chỉ hơn để có thể đóng góp cho xóm làng nhiều hơn bố mẹ chúng trước đây."
