I .THE IMPERSONAL PASSIVE (Cấu trúc bị động khách quan)

- Câu bị động khách quan có cấu trúc bắt đầu bằng "It"... và thường được dùng để
diễn tả ý kiến của người khác. Chúng ta thường thấy câu bị động khách quan
trong các bản tin hay văn trần thuật.

- Câu bị động khách quan thường chứa các động từ tường thuật như:

People believed that Mr Brown owned a lot of land in the north.
They thought that the prisoners had escaped.
 Past personal passive construction:

1b. When do we use the impersonal passive? Can you think of any rules? (p53)

We use the impersonal passive to express other people's opinions. It can be used with reporting
verbs, including say, think, believe, know, hope, expect, report, understand, claim, etc.

II.CÁCH DÙNG ĐỘNG TỪ SUGGEST (SUGGEST + V-ING/ CLAUSE WITH SHOULD)

Cách
dùng

- Ta sử dụng cấu trúc với “suggest” khi đưa ra một đề xuất, ý kiến.
- Cấu trúc “suggest + V-ing”được dùng để nói chung chung, không ám chỉ một người cụ thể ào.
- Cấu trúc “suggest that + S + V” khi muốn khuyên một người hoặc một nhóm người cụ thể.

- I suggest (that) we go out to have dinner. I know a very good restaurant.
(Tôi đề nghị chúng ta ra ngoài ăn tối. Tôi biết 1 nhà hàng rất ngon.)
- Her doctor suggested that she should reduce her working hours and take more exercise.
(Bác sĩ của côấy đề nghị rằng cô ấy nên giảm thời gian làm việc và tập thểdụcnhiều hơn.)
- He suggested travelling together for safety, since the area was so dangerous.
(Anh ấy đề xuất nên đi du lịch cùng nhau cho an toàn vì khu vực đó rất nguy hiểm.)
Trong trường hợp dùng mệnh đề “that”thì động từ theo sau luôn ở dạng nguyên mẫu không “to”,.
S + suggest + that + S + V ( nguyên mẫu)
ex: The doctor suggests that he lose some weights.(chủ ngữ là “he” nhung động từ “lose”không
chia.)

S + suggest + (that) + S + (should) + V. (bare infinitive)
S + suggest + V.ing ……

We use suggest + V-ing / clause with should to tell someone our ideas about what they should do, where they should go,
etc.
REMEMBER!
We can also use suggest + V-ing /clause with should to report someone's ideas about what someone else
should do, or what they should do themselves.
Example:
- Her mother suggested going to see the doctor.
- The government suggested closing a number of primary schools.
- The professor suggested that the students should read a number of books before the exam.
