CLIL
Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer
sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 1 to 5.
Both bacteria and viruses can cause diseases, but they are different in many ways.
Bacteria are living organisms. They can live in many places, such as soil, water, and
the human body. The smallest bacteria are about 0.4 micron in diameter. Some bacteria
in our bodies are helpful, but some can cause infectious diseases such as tuberculosis or
food poisoning. Antibiotics are often used to treat infections caused by bacteria.
Viruses are tiny germs that cause diseases in people, animals, and plants. They can
cause a range of illnesses, from the common cold or the flu to more serious diseases
such as AIDS and Covid-19. As they are very small (0.02 to 0.25 micron), viruses can
get into our bodies easily. They are not living things, so they need to enter our bodies to
become active. Then, they start to grow and cause the infected cell to make millions of
copies of the virus. Vaccines are often used to prevent the spread of diseases caused by
viruses.
CLIL
1 Read the text and answer the following questions
1. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The key differences and characteristics of bacteria and
viruses.
B. The most dangerous diseases caused by bacteria and viruses.
C. How vaccines and antibiotics work to fight germs.
D. The benefits of bacteria in the human body.
2. According to the passage, which of the following is
TRUE?
A. Viruses are considered living organisms.
B. All bacteria living in the human body are harmful.
C. Bacteria are generally much smaller than viruses.
D. Viruses depend on a host's cells to reproduce.
“Then, they start to grow and cause the infected cell to make millions of
copies of the virus." (Sau đó, chúng bắt đầu phát triển và khiến tế bào bị
nhiễm tạo ra hàng triệu bản sao của virus) -> Điều này có nghĩa là virus cần
tế bào của vật chủ để sinh sản.
3. What can be inferred from the passage about treating a
viral infection like the flu?
A. It can be easily treated by taking antibiotics.
B. It requires treatment that is similar to curing food
poisoning.
C. Using antibiotics for it would likely be ineffective.
D. It is always a more serious illness than tuberculosis.
"Antibiotics are often used to treat infections caused by bacteria" (Kháng
sinh thường được dùng để điều trị các bệnh nhiễm trùng do vi khuẩn).
Cúm (the flu) là bệnh do virus gây ra (đoạn 2). Từ hai thông tin này, ta có
thể suy luận rằng dùng kháng sinh để trị cúm sẽ không hiệu quả.
4. The word "infectious" in the first paragraph is closest in
meaning to _______.
A. helpful
B. transmissible
( có thể lây truyền)
C. minor
D. serious
infectious (adj): có khả năng lây lan, truyền nhiễm.

C. diseases
D. people
o Câu hỏi về từ quy chiếu (reference). Từ "They" đứng ở đầu câu
