* Grammar. Modal verbs: may, might, must, mustn’t, needn’t
+ Form: S + may/ might/ must/ mustn’t/ needn’t +V (bare inf)
- May và might để nói đến những sự việc hoặc hành động có thể, có khả năng xảy ra ở tương lai.
- Đối với những trường hợp không có thật ở hiện tại ta chỉ dùng might mà thôi.
If I knew them better, I might invite them.
- Must để nói lên sự cần thiết phải làm gì. Must dùng cho cả hiện tại và tương lai.
Mustn’t để nói lên ý cấm đoán, không được phép làm gì.
Needn’t được dùng với ý không cần thiết phải làm gì, là dạng phủ định của must.
+ Use:
I may/ might go to Ho Chi Minh for holiday.
Lan may/ might be ill
I must write a letter to my parents.
The baby is asleep. You mustn’t shout.
You mustn’t tell anybody about this problem.
You needn’t tell me about your love if you don’t want to.
