Pippa Wilson is studying marketing at university. She enjoys travelling and would probably like to work for a tour company. “I’m not sure yet exactly what I want to do. After university, I’m going to have a year off and I’m going round the world with another girl. We hope to find work on the way.”

It + to take + Object + time + to Vo
e.g. It took me 25 minutes to type the document
S + V + why/ what/ where…something + to Vo
e.g. I don’t know what to do
S + V+ too + adj/adv + (for + O) + to Vo
Bare infinitives / Vo
1. After modal verbs: should, may, might, can, could, will, would, had better, ought to,…
2. After some verbs: let, make, had better, would rather
e.g.He made me cry.
You had better take an aspirin.
be + made + to-inf
e.g.I was made to clean my room.
E.g. I saw my friend run / running down the street.
I heard the rain fall / falling on the roof.
Note: Advise, Recommend, Allow, Permit, Encourage, Require + Object + To-infinitive = Advise, Recommend, Allow, Permit, Encourage, Require + V-ing
5. Some verbs are followed by either to infinitives or V-ing with no difference in meaning
Ex: It began to rain / raining.
But It was beginning to rain.
6. Some verbs followed by either to infinitives or V-ing with a difference in meaning
