2. Does it describe the past, the present, or the future?
→ It describes the past (in 2000).
3. Which made up the largest amount of consumption?
→ Petroleum made up the largest amount of consumption (57 million tons)
4. Which energy consumption ranked the second?
→ Coal ranked the second (40 million tons)
5. Which made up the smallest amount of consumption?
→ Nuclear and hydroelectricity made up the smallest amount of consumption (20 million tons)
The chart shows the energy consumption in Highland in 2000. As can be seen, the total energy consumption was (1) _____ million tons. Petroleum made up the largest amount of this figure (57 million tons). This was followed by the consumption of (2) _____ (40 million tons). in 2000 and 2005.
Sample writing
The chart describes the energy consumption in Highland in 2000 and 2005. According to the chart, the total consumption in 2005 was much higher than it was in 2000 (170 million tons compared with 117 tons). In 2000, nuclear & hydroelectricity made up the smallest amount of energy consumption (20 million tons), but within five years, it went up sharply by 55 million tons. There was also a slight increase in the proportion of coal with just five million tons. However, petroleum consumption decreased gradually from 57 tons in 2000 to 50 tons in 2005.
