1. Phrases of concession: despite/ in spite of (mặc dù) Đi liền sau các thành ngữ này là các danh từ hoặc ngữ danh từ theo công thức:
In spite of/ Despite + N/V-ing, S – V. hay S – V in spite of/ despite + N/V-ing.
Eg. Jane will be admitted to the university despite her bad grades.
In spite of her bad grades, Jane will be admitted to the university.

2. Clauses of concession:
2.1. though/ although/ even though (mặc dù)
Though/ Although/ Even though S – V, S – V.
hay S – V though/ although/ even though S – V.
Eg. Jane will be admitted to the university though her grades is bad.
Although her grades is bad, Jane will be admitted to the university.
2.2. however (dù/ dẫu)
However adj/adv S – V, S – V. hay S – V however adj/adv S – V.
Eg. Jane will be admitted to the university however bad her grades is.
2.3. no matter how (dù thế nào/ dẫu thế nào)
No matter how adj/adv S – V, S – V. hay S – V no matter how adj/adv S – V.
Eg. Jane will be admitted to the university no matter how bad her grades is.
2.4. whatever (dù thế nào/ dẫu thế nào)
Whatever (N) S – V, S – V. hay S – V whatever (n) S – V.
Eg. Jane will be admitted to the university whatever bad grades she has.
2.5. inversion (đảo ngữ)
Adj/ Adv though/ as S – V, S – V.
Eg. Bad as Jane’s grade is, she will be admitted to the university.
2.6. but/ however (nhưng)
S – V, but/ however S – V.
Eg. Jane’s grade is bad, but/ however she will be admitted to the university.
2.7. despite/ in spite of the fact that (dù cho/ dẫu cho)
In spie of/ Despite the fact that S – V, S – V.
Eg. Despite the fact that Jane’s grade is bad, she will be admitted to the university.
