I. Gerund and present participle
1. What does he enjoy?
 He enjoys singing.
1. What is he doing?
 He is singing.
3. What are kinds of word of
“singing” in the two questions?
- In question 2 “singing” is present participle. It’s used in present continuous tense.
- In question 1 “singing” is the gerund.
GRAMMAR
Examples:
Revision of the gerund ( used as a verb and as a noun)
Danh động từ làm chủ ngữ trong câu.
Danh động từ làm tân ngữ của động từ trong câu.
( mind, enjoy, detest, dislike, fancy, feel like, start, begin, finish,suggest , ……)
3. Danh động từ làm tân ngữ của giới từ trong câu.
4. Danh động từ làm bổ ngữ trong câu.
My hobby is reading.
5. Danh động từ dùng trong một số thành ngữ:
It’s worth …….
- It’s no good, it’s no use ……
- can’t help/stand/bear……

2. Present participle
- He is singing .
- Football is an exciting sport.
- The train which is arriving at the station is one hour late.
The train arriving at the station is one hour late.
- Do you hear him singing?
* Use of Present participle
Dùng trong thì tiếp diễn: He is singing .
Dùng như tính từ: Football is an exciting sport.
Rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ ( ĐT dạng chủ động):The train arriving at the station is one hour late.
Đi sau động từ : see, hear, find, catch, smell (HĐ chưa kết thúc); spend, waste : - Do you hear him singing?
