What causes floods?


The basic cause of floods is high tides
or storms, creating large volumes of
flood water with soil and rocks,
overflowing river banks, dikes or
breaking flood prevention structures
into low-lying areas such as dams; or
due to rising sea levels flooding coastal
areas.

Where and when floods usually occur?


In our country, floods usually
occur in the Red River Delta, the
Mekong Delta, low-lying areas in
the North Central region and the
lower deltas of major rivers in
the South Central region.

How damaging are floods?


Damage caused by floods
Causes pollution of domestic
water sources. Contaminated
drinking and drinking water
sources seriously affect health
and cause diseases.



Damage to crops, trees, and
flooding cause food shortages.
Many people fell into poverty

What should people do when before while after a flood
occurs?



and after a flood:
Before:



- Prepare an emergency kit.



- Listen to local radio.



- Stay inside a safe and high place.



- Follow the routes specified by officials.



After:



- Avoid moving water.



- Emergency workers will be assisting people in
flooded areas.
