(adverb clause of concession)
- Mệnh đề nhượng bộ (concessive clause) là một phần trong cấu trúc câu phức – complex sentence.
- Một mệnh đề nhượng bộ là một mệnh đề bắt đầu bằng “although” hay “even though” và có nội dung trái ngược với thành phần chính của câu.
a. Although + (mệnh đề) S + V + O, S + V + O
Even though + (mệnh đề) S + V + O, S + V + O
Ex: - He walked to the station although it was raining.
- Although it was raining, he walked to the station.
b. inspite of + Noun/V-ing + O, S + V + O
despite + Noun/V-ing + O, S + V + O
Ex: He walked to the station despite/ in spite of being tired.
Despite /in spite of the rain, he walked to the station.
