1. Why is Mt. Everest now called the world’s highest junkyard?
2. When do climbers need oxygen bottles? Why?
3. What do adventures need for survival on the mountain?
4. In what way can the garbage on Mt. Everest be cleaned up?
5. Did Sherpas collect more or less garbage in 1998 than
they had done in 1995?
6. Why must all expeditions leave a deposit?
Because Mt. Everest – the highest place on Earth has a lot of garbage now.
They need oxygen bottles when they reach the height above 7,800 meters,
where there is not enough oxygen to breath in.
They need fuel canisters, oxygen bottles, batteries, foods and drinks.
The Sherpas pick up garbage , put it in their backpacks, and bring it down
to the foot of the mountain.
They collected more garbage.
This is a measure to force tourists not to leave their equipment on the
mountain. If they do so, they cannot get back the deposit.
