TET HOLIDAY
Tet is the most important holiday in our country. As for me, I look upon Tet, our New Year Day, as the most striking and meaningful holiday ever celebrated in Vietnam. If Christmas and the New Year are a season of joy and happiness to western people, Tet is no doubt a season of mirth and blessings to any Vietnamese regardless of age, religion and social status. Tet is a sort of family reunion. It is the yearly occasion on which members of a family gather under the same roof to celebrate seasonal renewal of nature. Tet is a sort of bond that ties the living with the dead. It is








a solemn occasion on which each home seems to send out a silent call for all the members to gather before the altar of their ancestors. Tet is a period of concord and hope. Wealth and Longevity Hope reigns supreme and overflows everywhere in the heart of Nature and in the heart of human beings. In brief, with its apricot-tree, its narcissus and its warm atmosphere of serene joy and expectation, Tet is a festive season of the highest solemnity.









MY FAVOURITE SPORT
I like swimming. It is my favorite sport for I know that it is healthy as well as a good chance for one to exercise one’s body. Last Sunday I went to VungTau with my family. When our car reached the top of the cliff overlooking the Bay, we put on our bathing-suits and ran into the water. It was a very happy swim for me. We played ball, challenged each other in swimming a certain distance. Of course, I was always beaten by my bigger brothers but I was satisfied with my good effort. When we felt tired, we lay down on the beach to rest and to have some sunbath. At about





noon, we returned to our tent and had lunch. About 3 p.m. we went once more into the water and bathed till 5 p.m. Finally, we got ready to start for home. Everyone was delighted to have spent such a wonderful day.










HOW TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Our environment becomes worse and worse nowadays. Protecting the environment is a problem that can be solved by all people and all countries in the world. First, we should not damage and destroy our forests. We should have plans to conserve and plant trees. The wild life may become extinct so we should not kill them and hunt them for their meat, fur, fins, etc. Second, we should not pollute our environment. Smoke from the factories, waste from industry, littering from tourists and inhabitants, etc. are polluting our air, our land, our rivers and our seas.









We should stop or reduce these activities, then our globe will be safe. All of us, of different races, religions and nations, should protect our environment, and right now!








WHY I WANT TO LEARN ENGLISH
English is the most important language in the world today. A very large number of people understand and use English in all parts of the world. Indeed, English is a very useful language. If we know English we can go to any place or country we like. We shall not find it hard to make people understand what we wish to say. English also helps us to learn all kinds of subjects. Hundreds of books are written in English everyday in all countries to teach people many useful things. The English language has therefore helped to spread ideas and knowledge to all the









corners of the world. There is no subject that cannot be learned in the English language. As English is used so much everywhere in the world, it has helped to make the countries of the world become more friendly with one another. The leaders of the world use English to understand one another. The English language has therefore also helped to spread better understanding and friendship among countries of the world. Lastly, a person who knows English is respected by people. It is for all these reasons that I want to learn English.
