MY FRIEND
Lan is my new friend in class 11C at Vo Thi Sau school in Ho Chi Minh City. I met her at the school ceremony last month and we soon became friends. Lan is 17 years old. She is a pretty girl with short fair hair and beautiful set of teeth. She also has a friendly smile and she is very interesting to talk to because she seems to know about a lot of interesting topics: friendship, art, music, fashion, medicine, cuisine, etc. Lan is a hard-working student; she does every assignment. Lan tells me that she is particularly interested in maths, chemistry, and biology this school-year

because she wants to become a doctor in the future. In her free time, Lan often visits and plays with orphans or helps her brother with maths homework. She often helps me with my English pronunciation, too. I think Lan’s helpfulness makes her a great person, and a great friend. I believe that her devotion for orphans will definitely make her a good doctor in the future.

my most memorable past experience
Dear Mary,
The most embarrassing experience I`ve ever had, happened two years ago. My mother and I had walked into town to do some shopping. The streets were very busy and we were holding hands. Suddenly my mother saw a dress that she liked in a shop window, and stopped. I started looking at some radios in the next window. After a minute or two I reached for my mother`s hand. There was a loud scream, and a young girl slapped my face. I hadn`t taken my mother`s hand, I`d take the hand of a complete stranger!

Please tell me your most embarrassing experience. I hope that it was not as bad as mine.
Yours cordially,
Hung

Vietnamese Educators’ Charter
One of the most celebrated traditional holidays in Vietnam is Vietnamese Educators’ charter, which falls on the twentieth of November every year. People celebrate this special day to honor all Vietnamese teachers for their devotion to the education cause of the country. On this merry and grateful occasion, students often visit their teachers, wishing them good health, happiness, and career success and respectfully presenting them gifts like flowers or silk to show their gratitude to their teachers. Gift shops are filled with beautiful 20-11 gifts and many elementary

children who may not fully understand the meaning of the holiday get excited to choose one for their teacher. And those who are out of town and cannot visit their teachers often send their favorite teachers greeting cards on which words of gratitude and wishes of the season are expressed. Many alumni who are now successful businessmen and government officers often send banquets of flowers to their old school as an expression of their gratitude towards their all teachers who have taught them to become useful citizens. Both teachers and students are very happy on this interesting holiday because they

have a chance to recall their funny and good memories. Many foreigners working as college teachers in Vietnam also feel very happy on Vietnamese Teachers’ Day when they receive a lot of Happy Teachers’ Day wishes and nice gifts of gratitude from their students.

Good luck!
