Task 1: Work in pairs: Match the things you might have done or experiences in box A with how the experiences might have affected you in box B:

*Notes:

* make somebody do something
* make somebody + adjective
Eg: The noise makes him tired.
* infinitive with ‘to’ or ‘-ing’ gerund are used as a subject.
Eg: “To speak English to a native speaker makes you more interested in learning English’’
or: “Speaking English to a native speaker makes you more interested in learning English’’
Task 2: Work in pairs. A student is talking to her friend about one of her past experiences and how it affected her. The lines in their conversation are jumbled. Put them in the correct order, then practise the dialogue.
Task 2:
a) I was walking along Trang Tien Street when an English girl came up to me and asked me the way to Hoan Kiem Lake. I told her, then we started talking about the lake.
b) Have you ever spoken English to a native speaker?
c) How did the experience affect you?
d) Yes. I talked to an English girl last summer.
e) What did you talk about?
f) Well, it made me more interested in learning English.
g) Everything about the lake : its name, the great turtles in it, etc..
h) How did you meet her?
Answer: 1-b 2-d 3-h 4-a 5-e 6-g 7-c 8-f
Task 2:
A: Have you ever spoken English to a native speaker?
B: Yes. I talked to an English girl last summer.
A: How did you meet her?
B: I was walking along Trang Tien Street when an English girl came up to me and asked me the way to Hoan Kiem Lake. I told her, then we started talking about the lake.
A: What did you talk about?
B: Everything about the lake : its name, the great turtles in it, etc..
A: How did the experience affect you?

Notes:

* Present perfect: sử dụng với “’ever’’ để nói về trải nghiệm trong quá khứ.
Eg : “ Have you ever been to Nha Trang?”

* Past simple: được sử dụng khi người đó tiếp tục hỏi về trải nghiệm đó.
Eg : When did you go there ?
Who did you go with?
Did you enjoy your visit to Nha Trang?

Task 3 : Work in pairs. Underline the structures used to talk about past experiences in the dialogue in Task 2, then use the structures and the ideas in Task 1 to make similar dialogues.

2. A:Have you ever been seriously ill?
B: Yes, I was badly ill last year.

A: How did the experience affect you?
B: It made me appreciate my health more.
