1. Relative pronoun is used as a SUBJECT in relative clauses:

E.g.
The man is a doctor. He lives next door to me.
 The man who/that lives next door to

Ex 2:
- David Beckham.
2. Relative pronoun is used as an OBJECT in relative clauses:
E.g.
The footballer is David Beckham. You have just seen him on the screen.
The footballer whom/that you have

Beckham.

3. Omission of relative pronouns in relative clauses.
Ex:
The footballer whom/that you have just seen on the screen is David Beckham.

Notes:
We can omit the relative pronoun when it is the OBJECT of a defining relative clause.
