- She wanted to become a firefighter.
2.What did she do after she failed the physical test?
- She sued New York City and the FDNY gender discrimination and won.
3. How were she and other female firefighters treated?
- They became the targets of laughter and anger from the co-worker and local people They were unwelcomed at meals, faced loneliness and even violence.
4. What jobs did they do at FDNY?
- They had to do exactly the same jobs as all other male firefighters.
5. What is Taking the Heat?
It is a documentary made in 2006 in which Brenda Berkman and other female firefighters were the subjects.
6. What does Brenda Berkman`s story show?
- It shows that gender differences can not prevent a person from pursuing a job.
Task 6. Discuss the following with a partner.
In my opinion,/I think that/ a woman should not do a man’s job because she will not have enough physical health as man to do it. If she tries too much, she may get hurt.
Should a woman do a man’s job? Why/Why not?
