1/ Causes
- Cigarette smoke releases over 5000 chemicals (Nicotine, Lead, Ammonia,...) and many of these are harmful - we know at least 70 can cause cancer
- Chemicals from cigarettes damage DNA, make it harder for cells to repair any DNA damage. They also damage the parts of DNA that protect us from cancer
- Smoking:
- Outdoor air pollution causes roughly 1 in 10 cases of lung cancer
- Lots of junk in the air we breathe - exhaust, chemicals, dust - but bad air as a whole, especially in industrial countries, like the U.S, is a major problem because of the sheer number of people who have to breathe it
- Air pollution:
- What You Eat :
- A high-carbohydrate diet, which leads to high blood sugar and insulin resistance, has been linked to lung cancer
- Examples: white breads, Russet potatoes, white rice,....
- Effects:
In the early stages, the person may also have recurrent respiratory infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis. As the tumor spreads, a variety of other symptoms will appear, depending on where the new tumor forms. Specifically, if the tumor is present in:
Lymph nodes: the patient has a tumor, especially in the neck or collarbone
Bones: the patient feels bone pain, especially in the back, ribs or hips;
