UNIT 6: GLOBAL WARMING
GROUP ..

CONTENTS:
01. What is global warming and its current status
02. Causes of global warming
03. Consequences of global warming
04. Solutions to prevent global warming
05. Some regions have effective solutions to global warming
01. WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING AND ITS CURRENT STATUS
WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?
Global warming
is the change in climate over identifiable and comparable time periods
previously, this phenomenon only appeared in a few areas and in a certain period due to natural changes
however, later, under the influence of humans, CO2 emissions increased
This phenomenon happened more often and on a global scale
CURRENT STATUS
According to a report by EPA:
The average temperature of the Earth in the 20th century increased by 0.2 to 0.6°C
The Earth`s surface temperature will likely increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C over the course of the 21st century
Sea level has risen at an average rate of 1.8 mm/year over the past century
The Arctic sea warms twice as fast as the global average, the area of the Arctic sea covered by ice every summer is gradually shrinking.
There are 4 types of climate change
Climate fluctuations
Greenhouse effect
Sea level rise
Global warming

2. CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING
Two main reasons :

NATURAL
HUMAN
- Greenhouse gases which are carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide
=> Acting as a roof of a greenhouse, trapping heat and causing global warming.
A) NATURAL:
B) HUMAN:
- Human causes directly or indirectly, including global warming, environmental degradation, mass extinction and loss of biodiversity, ecological crisis and ecological collapse.
burning fossil fuels
deforestation
the use of chemical fertilizers
burning forest
littering
vehicles
Consequences of global warming
3
Rise in temperature
Is gradual rise in the temperature of the earth’s surface
Environmental pollution
Air, land, water and soil pollution simply destroy the health of crucial ecosystems
Habitat destruction
Invasive species
Invasive species often compete for food with the native species and can also alter the habitat
Threats to the Ecosystem
Very often, tampering with one factor of the ecosystem can have a ripple effect on it and affect many more or other factors of the ecosystem
Climate change
Spread of disseases
Dengue fever
Malaria
Melting of polar ice caps and rising sea levels
Solutions

Solutions of Global Warming
Change your home`s source of energy
Walk, bike, or take public transport
Reduce, reuse, repair & recycle
Speak up
Change your home`s source of energy
- Asking your utility company
- Switching to renewable sources such as wind or solar.
- Installing solar panels on your roof
Walk, bike, or take public transport
Photos:
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Help your health and fitness.
Consider taking a train or bus
Carpool whenever possible
Reduce, reuse, repair & recycle

- Buying fewer things

- Repairing what you can

- Shopping second-hand

Speak up
- Get others to join in taking action
- Quickest and most effective ways to make a difference
- Let business owners know you support bold changes
- Appeal to local and world leaders to act now.
Some regions of the world have effective solutions to the current situation of global warming

CENTRAL AMERICA SOUTH AMERICA
- Improve water supply and land use.
- Improve urban flood managemen, build early warning systems weather alarms.
- Develop drought-resistant crop varieties
NORTH AMERICA
- Improve fire measures to prevent forest fires from affecting ecosystems and houses
- Encourage residential air conditioning, build cooling centers for vulnerable people
