Nhân vật trung tâm của các phẩm là một "ông già" người Cuba, người đã cố gắng chiến đấu trong ba ngày đêm vật lộn với một con cá kiếm khổng lồ trên biển vùng Giếng Lớn khi ông câu được nó. Sang đến ngày thứ ba, ông dùng lao đâm chết được con cá, buộc nó vào mạn thuyền và lôi về nhưng đàn cá mập đánh hơi thấy đã lăn xả tới, ông lại đem hết sức tàn chống chọi với lũ cá mập, phóng lao, thậm chí cả mái chèo để đánh. Ông giết được nhiều con, đuổi được chúng đi, nhưng cuối cùng khi nhìn đến con cá kiếm của mình thì nó đã bị rỉa hết thịt chỉ còn trơ lại một bộ xương khổng lồ.
Truyện vừa Ông già và biển cả (in năm 1952 trong tạp chí Life) mang lại thành công lớn trong giới phê bình và công chúng rộng rãi, kể về cuộc đấu tranh của con người với thiên nhiên như một tất yếu của sinh tồn. Năm 1953 nhà văn được trao giải Pulitzer cho tác phẩm này. Năm 1954 ông nhận giải Nobel Văn chương do sự đánh giá đặc biệt cao đối với tác phẩm Ông già và biển cả và ảnh hưởng quan trọng của nhà văn đối với văn học hiện đại.

The outline (Dàn ý)
Its main character is an old Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Guft stream. And finally he can catch the fish.
(Nhân vật chính là một người đánh cá già nua người Cu Ba, ông đã chiến đấu với một con cá kiếm khổng lồ ở ngoài khơi vùng biển “Giếng Lớn” và cuối cùng ông cũng bắt được con cá.)
The battle between the old man and the giant fish is considered the battle between man and nature as a necessity for survival.
(Cuộc chiến đấu giữa ông già và con cá khổng lồ được xem như là cuộc chiến giữa con người và thiên nhiên như là một tất yếu của sinh tồn.)
General introduction :
The story “The old man and the sea” is a short story written in English by Heming way, an American writer.
Summary of the book’s content :
The story is about the struggle between man and nature for survival. The main character is an old Cuban fisherman named Santiago, an unlucky fisherman. After 80 days not catching a fish, the old man venture far out into the Gulf to fish and a giant marlin takes his bait(mồi). But because the fish is too great, he must struggle 3 days and three nights with the fish, and finally he is able to catch it.
Conclusion :
In my opinion, the story “The old man and the sea” is a good one about the struggle for survival , and I think all of us should read it whenever we have time to understand more about the rules of life.
The theme of the story
In this story Nguyen Du wanted to tell us 
 through the fate of Kieu to be widened into the fate of human beings in the wicked feudal society along with its  cruelties and injustice.
