CORAL REEF ECOSYSTEM
GROUP II_12A1 PRESENTS. TOPIC: ENVIRONMENT PRESERVATION
I. Splendour
A coral reef is a large underwater structure
made of dead and living corals.
Staghorn coral
Spiral wire coral
Pillar coral
Fluorescent coral
Here are some typical sorts of Coral Reefs.
The list goes on…
The world’s coral reefs do more for the planet than provide underwater beauty.
II. Benefits
- The reef acts as the home of many tropical fish and other animals.
- Contributing to the splendid scenery of the ocean
- Developing tourism, supplying humans with construsting materials as well as decorative items
III. Status
However, scientists say the Earth’s coral reefs as we know them could disappear before the next century owing to humans’ perpetual damage to underwater environment.
According to recent survey, over 50 percent of the world`s coral reefs have died in the last 30 years and up to 90 percent may die within the next century—very few pristine coral reefs still exist.
CORAL REEFS NEED OUR HELP
Corals have existed for more than 400 million years; yet stresses and changes from human activities are happening faster than their ability to adapt. Corals may not survive the intensity and swiftness of these ongoing changes.
CORALS ON THE EDGE OF EXTINCTION
IV. Solutions
There are a plenty of ways our students can do so as to contritube to preserving coral reefs such as:
Recycle and dispose of trash properly. No trashing near the seashore and afar at sea and underwater.
Volunteer in local beach or reef cleanups
practise safe and responsible diving and snorkelling, avoid damaging the beauty of coral reefs. Never touching or harassing wildlife in reef areas
Use organic fertilizers to avoid polluting the ocean. The chemicals fertilizers can easily killed fish and marine animals.
Don’t buy coral reefs product because the trade encourages people to take them away from the sea and so drive them into extinction.
Conserve Water
The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually find their ways back into the ocean.
Thank you for your attentive listening.
TOGETHER, LET’S MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE !
