The past simple vs . the past continuous with “ when” and “ while”
We use the past simple to talk about an action that interrupts it.
We use the past continuous to talk about an action in progress.
* However, we often use the the past simple with the past continuous by using “when “ or while”
When I was taking a bath, the telephone rang.
The telephone rang when I was taking a bath.
While I was taking a bath, the telephone rang.
The telephone rang while I was taking a bath.
