1. Why to teach pronunciation?
to improve intelligibility
to create the best impression in particular situations
because of the inconsistent relationship between pronunciation and writing (different spelling but same pronunciation)  confusion
Pronunciation’s problems

(1) using the wrong sound
(2) leaving sounds out
(3) adding sounds
(4) putting stress on the wrong syllable
in a word
(5) putting stress on the wrong syllable
in a sentence
(6) using the wrong intonation pattern
(7) combinations of these problems
