I often go to Times Square with my parents to welcome the New Year. When the clock strikes midnight, colorful fireworks light up to the sky. Everybody around is cheering and singing happily. I love that moment so much.
The happiest time for me is the first day of the New Year. After getting up we dress beautifully in red and go to the main room. There my grandparents sit on a sofa. The adults bow and say their wishes to them. We children say ours next. They then give us lucky money in res envelopes. After that, we go out and have a day full, good food and laughter.

Mai-Viet Nam
I learnt some beliefs about Tet from my parents. I don’t understand them but I like them.
Before Tet people give presents to show their love and respect. They give rice to wish for enough food and red fruits for happiness. Dogs are lucky animals. Their barking sounds like the Vietnamese word for richness.
But one shouldn’t present a cat because its name sounds like poverty. One shouldn’t eat shrimps, either. Shrimps move backwards. This means you will not succeed in the New Year.
