Past Simple and Past Perfect Tense
PAST SIMPLE TENSE
Form: S + V-ed/V-irregular
To be: I, She, He, It – was
You, We, They - were
Usage:
1.Diễn tả một hành động đã xảy ra và chấm dứt ở quá khứ vào một thời điểm xác định.
E.g. They went to Australia last week.
There was a bank robbery in the city yesterday.



2. Diễn tả một hành động đã xảy ra và chấm dứt ở một thời điểm nào đó trong quá khứ.
E.g. He got a job as a taxi driver.
I saw her at Peter’s party.
3. Diễn tả một thói quen hoặc những hành động thường làm ở quá khứ.
E.g. I often came to see her every week.
He used to play games when he was small.
4. Diễn tả những hành động kế tiếp nhau trong quá khứ
E.g. She ate a piece of cake, drank a little of wine then went to bed.
PAST PERFECT
Form: S+had+past participle
Usage:
1. Diễn tả một hành động đã xảy ra trước một hành động khác trong quá khứ.
E.g. When he arrived at school, the class had started.
2. Diễn tả một hành động đã xảy ra hoặc hoàn thành trước một thời điểm nào đó trong quá khứ
E.g. I had seen him before last Friday

Exercise 1: Use the verbs in brackets in the past simple
He (work) for this company last year.
