The Bru-Van Kieu have a population of about 74,500 people. They mostly live in the mountainous regions of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces. Their language belongs to the Mon – Khmer group. They grow rice on terraced fields, raise cattle and poultry to earn their living. They hold main festivals before sowing seeds.

The Khmer people have a population of about 1,260,600 people. They mostly live in the provinces of Mekong Detal. Their language belongs to the Mon – Khmer group. They even have their own writing system. They grow rice, raise cattle and poultry to earn their living. They also make sugar. They have two main holidays: Chaul Chnam Thmey (New Year) and Greeting – the- Moon (Ooc-Bom-Boc) festival.
