1.Defining clauses (mệnh đề xác định)
Đây là loại mệnh đề mà chủ ngữ chưa được xác định rõ, nên phải cần có mệnh đề này làm rõ chủ ngữ hơn.
Ex: The man who is sitting next to my father is my form teacher.

2. Non-defining clauses (mệnh đề không xác định)
Đây là loại mệnh đề mà chủ ngữ đã được xác định rõ, mệnh đề này chỉ để bổ sung thông tin cho chủ ngữ.
Ex: Mr. Pike, who is sitting next to my father, is my form teacher.
