Primary and Secondary Educations in VIETNAM
Don’t have exam to get certificates of primary and secondary educations.
Have 2 semesters a year
Have 15, 45 minutes of tests and final tests in every term
Primary school:5- 11
At the age of 11, take Eleven plus exam
*In the past:+ passed went to a grammar school.
+ failed went to the secondary modern school.
*These days: most 11 go to a comprehensive school.
Secondary education
Offers 5 year course, from 11-16
Pupils never repeat the year.
To year 10, pupils start to learn preparatory curciculum for GCSE examination.
At the end of 5 year course, pupils sit for the GCSE exam (4 optional subjects, from biography to history).
Marks are given for each subjects separately. The syllabuses and methods of examining boards differ.
There is a uniform system of marks: graded from A to G. Grades A, B & C are regarded as good grades.
After taking GCSE, pupils have 3 options
Leave secondary schooling for a job or a profession
Continue their education at vocational and technical colleges
Take a higher - level of secondary school exams known as AS - Levels (Advanced Subsidiary Levels)

Student must take and pass SSLE

. This Exam consists of 6 subjects: math, literature, a foreign language and three alternating subjects.
. In order to graduate, a student at least needs to achieve a score of 30 points.

A student take 3 subjects one of 4 basic groups.
Group A: Math, Physics, Chemistry.
Group B: Math, Chemistry, Biology

Sixth form and A-level
* Sixth form:16- 18, not compulsory.
Pupils spend 2 years studying for A- level.
* A- level: set by the same examining board as GCSE exam.
The average result of 2 exams at the end of year 1 and year 2 is A- level mark
Conditions for university entrance
Have A - Level
A - E (pass grades): go to universities
U: unclassified
For entrance to Oxford or Cambridge and the most popular courses at other universities, 3A grades or 2A grades and 1B are normally required
Most other courses are likely to require at least B and C grade; a few will ask for Ds and Es in less popular subjects

BA ( Bachelor of Arts)
MA ( Master of Arts): 2 years
PhDs( doctor of philosophy) or doctoral degree: 4 years with university degree and 2- 3 years with master’s degree.
Higher education in UK
Bachelor` s Degree: The first degree, most commonly a BA or BSc (2 years).
Master`s Degree: The second degree, most commonly an MA or MSc(2 years).
Doctorate: The highest level of formal study, most commonly a PhD( 2-3 years).
