1. Long vowel /i:/
(Nguyên âm dài /i:/)
2. Short vowel /ɪ/
(Nguyên âm ngắn /ɪ/)
/ I: / - Cách phát âm: lưỡi đưa hướng lên trên và ra phía trước,khoảng cách môi trên và dưới hẹp, mở rộng miệng sang 2 bên. Khi phát âm âm này, miệng hơi bè một chút, giống như đang mỉm cười vậy.

Eg: Sheep /ʃi:p / See /si:/
II. Pronunciation
1. "e" được phát âm là/i:/ khi đứng liền trước hình thức tận cùng bằng phụ âm + e (scene, Vietnamese, complete….)
và trong những chữ be, he, she, me
2. "ea" thường được phát âm là /i:/ khi: từ có tận cùng là"ea" hoặc "ea" + một phụ âm: tea, easy, cheap, meal, meat, dream, heat…
3. "ee" thường được phát âm là /i:/ trong: three, see, screen, agree…
4. "ei" được phát âm là /i:/ trong một số trường hợp:ceiling, receive, receipt,decieve…
5. "ey" thường được phát âm là /i:/ trong một số trường hợp : key, money…
6. "ie" được phát âm là /i:/ khi nó là những nguyên âm ở giữa một chữ: chief,believe, belief,relief,relieve…
Long vowel /i:/ , (Nguyên âm dài /i:/)
/ I / Khi phát âm âm /ɪ/ ngắn, vị trí lưỡi thấp hơn, khoảng cách môi trên-dưới rộng hơn và miệng mở rộng 2 bên nhưng hẹp hơn một chút so với âm /i:/ dài
Eg: Six /sɪks/ Fish /fɪʃ/

Short vowel /ɪ/
(Nguyên âm ngắn /ɪ/)
1. “a” được phát âm là /ɪ/ khi đối với những danh từ có hai âm tiết và có tận cùng bằng "age“: village, cottage,baggage, shortage, message…
2. “e” được phát âm là /ɪ/ trong tiếp đầu ngữ “be”, “de” và “re”:begin, become, decide, return, renew…


3. “i” được phát âm là /ɪ/ trong từ có một âm tiết và tận cùng bằng một hoặc hai phụ âm (i + phụ âm): win, sit, him, miss, twin…..
4. "ui" được phát âm là /ɪ/: build, guitar, quixotic, equipvalent…
