Lesson 26:
TYPES OF SPECTRUM
Spectrometer is a tool used to analyze a complex beam of light into monochromatic components
Collimator tube
Light from a source enters the collimator through a narrow slit and is formed into a parallel beam
Dispersion system
The light from the dispersion system is separated into monochromatic components. Rays of the same color are parallel.
dark chamber
The film of the dark chamber is right in the focal plane of the lens. The spectrum is on the imaging plane
A continuous spectral source is solids, liquids and high-pressure gases that are heated.
Continuous spectral image is a continuously variable color range (like rainbow color)
Iron 1000 0 C
Ceramic 1000 0 C
What does the continuous spectrum depend on?
Based on the spectral analysis of a bright hot object we know the temperature of the object.
Emission spectral source is low-pressure gases or vapers that are heated or excited by electricity.
Image of emission line spectrum are individual colored light lines separated by dark spaces
Emission line spectrum of some different chemical elements
What does the emission line spectrum depend on?
Examining spectral lines can be used to identify elements in chemistry as well as allowing astrophysicists to determine the chemical makeup of their stars by examining spectral lines.
Conditions obtain the absorption spectrum
The condition to obtain the absorption spectrum is that the temperature of the absorbent mass must be lower than the temperature of the source of the continuous spectrum emission
Image of absorption spectra of gas or vapor are dark lines on a continuous spectrum
Compare the absorption and emission spectra of the same element
They are the same in terms of the number of bars and the position of the lines. They are different from the colour.
