CHUYÊN ĐỀ : THÌ ĐỘNG TỪ

I. The present simple tense (Thì hiện tại đơn)
1. Form to be
- Affirmative: S + V1…. S + am/is/are……
- Negative: S + do/does + not + V1… S + am/is/are + not…..
- Interrogative: Do/Does + S + V1….? Am/Is/Are + S ….?
2. Adverbs:
Often = usually = frequently,
always = constantly,
sometimes = occasionally, seldom = rarely,
everyday/ week/ month.............
II. The present continuous tense (Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn)
1. Form : - Affirmative: S + am/is/are + V- ing……
- Negative: S + am/is/are + not + V-ing…..
- Interrogative: Am/Is/Are + S + V-ing ….?
Note: Kh«ng dïng th× HTTD víi c¸c ®éng tõ chØ nhËn thøc, tri gi¸c nh­ : to be, see, hear, understand, know, like, want, glance, feel, think, smell, love, hate, realize, seem, remember, forget, belong to, believe.....(Víi c¸c ®éng tõ nµy ta thay b»ng th× HT§).
2. Adverbs:
tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, next summer…


III. The present perfect tense (Thỡ Hi?n t?i ho�n th�nh)
1. Form :
Affirmative: S + has/have +V3/ed..
- Negative: S + has/have + not + V3/ed...
- Interrogative: Has/Have + S + V3/ed..?
2. Adverbs : - just, recently, lately :gần đây, vừa mới - ever: đã từng
- never: chưa bao giờ - already: rồi
- yet: chưa (dùng trong câu phủ định và nghi vấn)
- since: từ khi (chỉ thời điểm mà hành động bắt đầu)
- for: khoảng (chỉ khoảng thời gian của hành động)
- so far = until now = up to now = up to the present : cho đến nay, cho đến tận bây giờ ...
Thỡ HTHTTD : S + have been + Ving. Sử dụng tương tự thỡ HTHT nhưng muốn nhấn mạnh tính liên tục của hành động.
eg. You have been learning English for 5 years.
IV. The past simple tense (Thỡ Quỏ kh? don)
1. Form to be
- Affirmative: S + V2/ed.. S + was/were..
- Negative: S + did + not + V1... S + was/were + not...
- Interrogative: Did + S + V1..? Was/Were + S ..?
2. Adverbs :
- last, yesterday, ago, in 1989,.
- Khi đổi sang dạng phủ định và nghi vấn nhớ đưa động từ chính về nguyên mẫu.
- Chú ý cách phát âm các động từ có tận cùng là `ed`

V. The past continuous tense: (Thỡ quỏ kh? ti?p di?n)
1. Form : - Affirmative: S + was/were + V-ing..
- Negative: S + was/were + not + V-ing...
- Interrogative: Was/Were + S + V-ing..?
2. Adverbs:
at 4 p.m yesterday
at this time last Sunday...........
3. Structures:
When S1 + Ved, S2 + was/ were + Ving.
While S1 + was/ were + Ving, S2 + was/ were + Ving.

VI. The past perfect tense (Thỡ quỏ kh? ho�n th�nh)
1. Form : - Affirmative: S + had + V3/ed..
- Negative: S + had + not + V3/ed...
- Interrogative: Had + S + V3/ed..?
eg. They had live here before 1985.
After the children had finished their homework, they went to bed.

2. Structures:
Before S1 + Ved, S2 + had Vpp
, S1 + Ved , after S2 + had Vpp



Exercise 1: Put the verb in brackets in the correct tense: Past simple, Past progressive, Past perfect.
1. They ………………(go) out a few minutes ago.
2. What (you/ do) .......................... at this time yesterday?
3. By the time we arrived at the cinema, the film (start) ........
4. ……… you and Tom …… (enjoy) the party last night?
5. When we were on holiday, the weather …… (be) terrible.
6. When I found my wallet, someone (take) ................. the money.
7. I ..................... (walk) in the park when it started to rain.
8. Last night, when I (come) ..................... to the party, Mary already (go) ................... home.

Exercise 2: Supply the correct verb forms: Simple past or Past perfect:
1. After they had gone, I (sit) down and (have) rest.
2. He (forget) what I (tell) him. I (remind) him many times, but he still (not bring) what I (want).
3. What he (be) when he ( be) young?
4. It was the first time I (ever see) such a beautiful girl.
5. He (ask) me whether I (see) his pen on the table. I (tell) him that I (not see) it around.
6. If you (wait) only a little while longer, you would have met her. You (not see) her since we last (meet) two years ago.
7. They (go) home after they (finish) their work.
8. They told me they (not eat) such kind of food before.
