I/ Grammar:The Past Progressive tense(Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn
Ex: I was watching TV at 8 o’clock last night.
a. Formation:
S + was/were+ V-ing +O.
S + wasn’t/ weren’t + V-ing +O.
Ex: I wasn’t doing my homework at 8 o’clock last night.
Was/were +S+ V-ing+ O?
Ex: Was you doing your homework at 8 o’clock last night?
Yes, S+ was/were.
No, S + wasn’t/ weren’t.
b, Use:
*Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn dùng để diễn tả một hành động đang xảy ra tại một thời điểm xác định/ cụ thể trong quá khứ. Thường đi với các trạng từ chỉ thời gian như: at this time(at …. O’clock) yesterday/ last week/ last year/ last month.
Ex: I was watching a film on TV at 8 o’clock yesterday
*Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn dùng để diễn tả một hành động đang diễn ra trong quá khứ thì một hành động khác xen vào. Hành động xen vào dùng ở thì quá khứ đơn thường đi với liên từ “when.”
Ex:Last night, she came when I was having dinner
S1+V2/Ved +When+S2+ Was/Were + V-ing.
Ex: when Nam won the race, the crowd was cheering
when+S1+V2/Ved, +S2+was/were+V-ing.
* Hai hay nhiều hành động song song cùng xảy ra một thời điểm trong quá khứ thường đi với liên từ “while”
Ex: At this time yesterday, my father was reading newspaper while my mother was cooking meal
S1 + was/were+V-ing + while+S2+ was/were+ V -ing
Ex: while Hoa was eating, the phone rang.
 while+S1+ was/were+V-ing, +S2+V2/Ved.
